How to Pack a TV to Move – Box it Up Safely

Ideally, you package your TV in its original box when transporting it; this box was designed specifically for your model to prevent damage while moving it. Each TV has unique shapes, contours, and dimensions, so if you can hold onto the original packaging, we always recommend doing so.

If you don’t have the supporting packaging that came with the box, like styrofoam pieces or bubble wrap, you’ll want to purchase these to prevent the TV screen from rubbing against/making contact with the side of the replacement box. If you still have the packing instructions, follow the steps carefully.

How to Pack a TV to Move – Keep Track of Loose Parts

TVs have a lot of peripheral accessories to help with setting them up. You might have a wall mount or use the stand that came with the TV. If you have your TV sitting on a stand, you’ll want to remove it. It’s a good idea to place the stand pieces and screws in a plastic bag or safe place so you’ll know where to find them when it’s time to reasmble. If you can get them back in the original box, that’s ideal, but at the very least, mark them in a designated container.

If your TV is on a wall mount, don’t forget to remove the mounting bracket so you can use it in your new home. Again, you’ll want to find a safe place to keep any screws or loose parts while transporting the TV.

Protect the Screen

The screen is the most fragile component of a TV, and screens are easily damaged while in transport. It’s important to make sure that it is protected throughout your move. You never want to touch the screen while packaging the TV or transporting it. Make sure you never put the TV facedown without blankets or other protective layers to cushion the screen while boxing it up. It’s also crucial that you don’t put any weight on the TV when moving. Be aware of the TV’s location, and don’t place items on top of it, as this could cause the screen to crack.
